Augustana was formed some 70 years ago to serve primarily Swedish immigrants to Edmonton using a house at 107th Street and 99th Avenue. The present building was built by congregational members on the original site a half century ago. Today, Augustana Evangelical Lutheran Church answers its calling in many ways as a participant in the Edmonton City Centre Church Corporation and a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada. An outreach lunch to seniors within and beyond the congregation is served on the third Saturday of each month. The church building also provides space for one other worship group: Bethel Evangelical Church (Tigrini). Augustana has an active choir. Holy Communion is celebrated every Sunday. During Sunday Worship, children are encouraged to attend Sunday School. Adult catechism classes are offered as required. To foster the life of the congregation, the congregational council provides planning, direction and leadership, and “hand-on-work” .
